# Uploading an Audio Recording

Already have a recording? Upload the file and Tamloot transcribes it and writes the notes — same as a live session.

Useful when you recorded on another device, used a voice recorder, or want to process an older conversation.

---

## Upload from the Dashboard

1. Open [app.tamloot.cc](https://app.tamloot.cc) and click **Upload** in the quick actions (or go to **Sessions → Upload Recording**)
2. Drag in your audio file, or pick it from your device
3. Choose the contact — or create one on the spot
4. Watch the progress indicator; transcription starts as soon as the upload finishes

**Supported formats:** MP3, WAV, WebM, OGG, and M4A. For anything else, convert it first with a free online converter.

---

## Upload from the iOS App

On iPhone, tap the **⋯** menu on the Home screen → **Upload**, then pick a file from Files or iCloud.

**Set the session date.** iOS can't tell when the audio was actually recorded — only when it was shared — so the date defaults to today. Change it to the real conversation date before you send.

---

## What Happens Next

1. **Transcription** — audio is transcribed, usually within a few minutes; longer recordings take longer
2. **AI notes** — summary, key themes, action items, and professional notes
3. **Sessions** — everything appears in your dashboard

---

## Tips

- **Link to a contact** so the session joins their history and feeds meeting prep.
- **Audio quality matters.** Clearer audio makes better transcripts. Heavy background noise or a muted mic is the most common reason a session comes back with no notes.
- **File size** — no strict limit, but larger files take longer to upload. A 50-minute session in MP3 is around 50 MB.
- **Recording in person regularly?** The [in-person guide](/docs/in-person-recording) covers recording directly in the app instead.
